“We are Witnesses…”

DSC_6769Have you ever wondered what it might be like if St. John wrote a letter to us today? Would he say: Your life and your words truly speak of your love for God.  Your actions show your appreciation for what Jesus’ dying and rising has done for you and demonstrate your understanding of the opportunity He offers us to join Him in His saving action. Or would St. John say we look more like liars than true disciples of the Risen Christ because we oftentimes say one thing with our mouths, but our lives tell another story?

There is a lot to feel good about as a result of the historical event of Easter. We hear once again in today’s Gospel, Christ gave his followers many opportunities to verify that He was once again truly alive. And so Peter, in today’s first reading could confidently and easily say: “We are witnesses…”

In today’s second reading, St. John couldn’t make it any clearer… we will walk in the early disciples shoes only if we keep His Commandments in word and deed… and in so doing save ourselves, and the whole world by following Him!
