The Choice is Ours

The first reading today from the Old Testament book of Wisdom reveals that even before the advent of Jesus, thinking men could draw the conclusion as a result of their experience of God, that God does not overpower us with his might, but rather is patient and kind and open to our repentance.

St. Paul in the second reading adds to this that God is willing to add to our shortcomings even when we don’t know what we lack, provided we try.

And in the Gospel, Jesus, ever using the teaching techniques of comparisons and allegories to what we are familiar with, points out that God’s way of dealing with us is to respect our freewill and choices, and will not interfere as long as we live on this earth. But make no mistake about it, there will come a moment when we will have to answer for the choices we make.
