Solemnity of the Holy Trinity

DSC_6704As creatures, with all the limitations which accompany that status, we nevertheless know in our hearts that we are called to eventual everlasting bliss in the presence of and in union with God. We therefore desire to know Him, but as hard as we try, whatever little we understand,  is inevitably shrouded in mystery.

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity, the inner life of God. He has graciously chosen to reveal a little of that to us. But because of our limitations He can only give us hints. And so in today’s readings of His inspired word, we hear the hint of Divine Wisdom which brought about and sustains all creation and is the mastermind behind all its truth, goodness and beauty.

In the second reading we hear the three part “formula” of God; God the Father, His Son, Jesus Christ who became one with us in order to reconcile us to Himself, and the Holy Spirit whom He send to us to lead us successfully through the journey of life. We thus begin to see through the “fog of our human comprehension” and come to understand that God is a community of three persons who live always in unity and peace and everlasting love for one another.

He reveals this to us so that we might have some idea what we are called to… what is our destiny, in loving union with Him. Let us rejoice in the Trinity, and strive to join!
