Reflect, Repent, Fast & Pray

As we move toward mid-Lent today, St. Paul reminds us that what seems wise to this world is foolishness to God and what seems like foolishness to the world (e.g. Lenten abstinence) is wisdom to God.

Lent is a time calling us to spiritual renewal, a regeneration of fervor, a time to imitate Christ more closely. Just as Jesus had to remove all the unnecessary clutter from the temple which was interfering with true prayer, the spirit of this season calls us to examine our lives to attack and clear out those little habits which prevent us from growing in the body of Christ.

So, today’s liturgy asks us to review the Ten Commandments. Don’t be too quick to smugly gloss over them as not a factor in your spiritual life. Perhaps a more prayerful reflection on their implication in your everyday existence is in order?
