The Light Shines in the Darkness!

A light shall shine upon us this day: for the Lord is born to us: and He shall be called Wonderful, God, the Prince of Peace, the Father of the world to come: of whose reign there shall be no end.

— Is. ix. 2, 6

Blessed Mother Statue Dedicated

The statue of The Blessed Mother, relocated to Sacred Heart grounds from St. William’s church, is dedicated by  Fr. Vaughan following the 11:15 am Mass on Sunday December 11, 2011.  Thanks to Chris Hoyt and several dedicated men in our parish who committed much time and talent to complete the relocation before the December 8, 2011 celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

Sacred Heart Book Group to Meet

Sacred Heart book group will meet on Wednesday, December 14 to discuss Six Million Paperclips: The Making of a Children’s Holocaust Memorial.  This book written by Peter W. Schroeder/Dagmar Schroeder-Hildebrand tells the inspiring and touching story of the teachers, students, and community of Whitwell Middle School in Tennessee, and their quest to understand and teach about the Holocaust.   As a part of their study of the Holocaust, the children try to collect 6 million paper clips representing the 6 million Jews killed by the Nazis.  Join  us at 6:00pm at the Brunswick Community Library to discuss this inspiring and poignant work.

Mary is on the Move!

Parishioner Chris Hoyt prepares a new foundation for the statue of the Blessed Mother being relocated from St. William’s Church to Sacred Heart.  The Blessed Mother statue will be installed in the new landscape area located on the Spring Avenue side of  Sacred Heart’s grounds.

Winter Walk for the Homeless

Each year, Joseph House holds its “Walk” to help support its ministry to the homeless in our community.  Fr. Vaughan will be leading our parish contingency again this year.  If you would like to help support Fr. Vaughan in this effort , you can send your donation in an envelope marked “Joseph Walk” to the rectory, or place the envelope in the collection basket next weekend.  Please make checks payable to JOSEPH HOUSE.

24 Days of Christmas Raffle

Much like our March Madness raffle, Sacred Heart School is holding a 24 Days of Christmas Raffle.   Here’s how it works;  For a $5.00 raffle ticket, the winner receives 24 chances to win $25 in prize money each day during the month of December.  The raffle will run from December 1 through December 24.  On the 12th day of Christmas (December 12th) the prize will be $100 and on Christmas Eve (December 24th) the grand prize will be $500  Each winning ticket gets put back in the raffle for subsequent chances to win, so donors truly have 24 chances to win (Yes, it does happen)!  That’s it: 24 chances to win $25 – $500 prize money for five bucks – it’s a no brainer!   The children choose the winners each day during morning assembly, which makes for an exciting start to each day.    Winners are also posted on a display board in the church hallway and on the school website to make everyone aware of the lucky winners.
