New to Sacred Heart Parish?

WELCOME! We are happy to have you in our community and hope that you will enjoy a truly Christian experience with us. Please call the rectory to register (274-1363) or fill out the registration form on the bulletin board in the back of church. This helps us for sacraments, sick calls or any other assistance you may need. If you are moving out of the parish or if you have changed your phone number, please call Barbara (274-1363) at the rectory so we can update our records. This will save us time and the expense of return postage. If you know that you will be away for an extended period of time, please advise us so we can cancel your envelopes for that period. Thank you!

Welcome Back!

Welcome to all our students and teachers.   As we start a new year may we try to do better and accomplish much more and be kinder and wiser than in the year gone before.  We ask God’s help   in all that we do and count on Him to refresh and renew.  What will you do with this year that’s so new?  The choice is yours – God leaves that to you.

“The Gift of Life”

One Mayo Clinic heart recipient said; “The gift of life is priceless.  I think of my donor every day.”  Consider this in relation to receiving communion at Mass.

“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life.  Yes, that word is really “has” – eternal life now!  Many Christians, including some Catholics, consider receiving the Eucharist as a remembrance of something that happened many years ago.  Listen again, “…unless you eat…” and “whoever eats…”

What is in your mind as you receive?  Do you think of your Donor every day?

Joseph’s House Donations Needed

Joseph’s House is in desperate need of new or gently used bath towels, hand towels and washcloths.  There will be a box in the back of church this weekend or you may drop your donations off directly to Joseph’s House.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Many thanks to those who have already given!

“…whoever believes has eternal life.”

In today’s Gospel reading there are four occasions in which Jesus is promising eternal life.  Verse 44: “…and I will raise him on the last day,”  Verse 47: “…whoever believes has eternal life.”  The next two have reference to the Eucharist;  Verse 50:  “…so that one may eat it and not die,” and finally, Verse 51: “…whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

Clearly all who accept Jesus in faith will have attained eternal life!  How is your life unfolding relative to our  primary goal of living with God forever?

Volunteer Opportunity

St. Joseph the Worker Program sponsored by the Sisters of  St. Joseph of Carondelet, offers women and opportunity to grow in their leadership, explore spirituality, live in community and serve in local human services agencies.  The volunteer year begins in August and extends until June of 2013.  It’s not too early to consider what you might like to be doing to “change the world.”  For more information contact Sr. Betsy VanDeusen csj at 393-0528 or sjworkers@csjalbany.org or www.sjworkers.org
