The Sacred Heart School Board has two positions to fill.  The group acts in an advisory capacity to the Principal and meets approximately six times a year.  There is a  two and three-year term.  We are currently seeking individuals with expertise in any of the following areas: finance, marketing, fund-raising, social networking, and public relations.  If you are interested, please send a letter of interest, explaining what you can bring to the Board, and address it to Susan Holland, care of the school office no later than June 30, 2012.

Are You a Disciple?

Today’s reading is part of what is known as   Jesus’ Priestly Prayer and it shows his concern   for those that would continue the ministry that Jesus started while on earth.  An interesting point is that Jesus is not just referring to the Apostles but to the disciples.  Who then, are the disciples?  Simply stated they are “followers of Christ.”  Their duties?  To evangelize – this is the church’s most important task.  “As you sent me into the world,  so I sent them into the world.”  As disciples, our presence and our witness in the world will reveal the possibility of living life in Christ.  Jesus is counting on you!

“I am the Vine you are the Branches.” (John 15:1-8)

Today, there are some strong messages for us in the gospel about how Jesus expects us to live.  Five times we hear the expression “bearing fruit” and eight times the verb “remain”  or “remains.”  Obviously, we are being told, to be a Christian is to draw our life, our purpose, our very being from our relationship with Jesus.  Then and only then are we capable of “bearing fruit” which is required of all.  Those that do not “remain” are like a discarded branch that will be thrown into the fire.  Have you been “bearing    any fruit” lately?

Pilgrimage to Rome!

On October 21 of this year, the Holy Father will raise to the rank of saint our own native-born Kateri Tekakwitha, born   near Auriesville in our diocese.  This has been a long awaited event for our Native American brothers and sisters.  You have the opportunity to be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime experience by joining Bishop Hubbard and Deacon Neil as part of the Diocese’s pilgrimage to Rome to celebrate this event.  Fliers containing application forms are available in the rear of the church.  If you have never been to the city that is the center of our Catholic faith, this may be your chance!

Faith in Action: Blanket Ministry

Since the beginning of 2012, twenty-one babies have been baptized at Sacred Heart.

All have received a white blanket representing the warmth of a welcome from our Parish Community.  Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who have sewn, knitted or crocheted blankets…what talented hands!  Thank you also to shoppers who faithfully search stores for white baby blankets.

All make this Ministry work!  A number of these blankets were blessed at the 8:45am Mass this Sunday.  Surely, our Blessed Mother is pleased to see your generosity to these little ones that her Son Jesus loves so much.

This ministry is just one of the many ways that we can answer Jesus’ call to put our faith into action.  Take a moment to look through the ministries page  for opportunities to become more actively involved in your faith and the life of the Sacred Heart Community, or contact the Rectory at 273-1363 if you are interested in becoming more involved!

Fresh Air Host Families Needed

Are you looking for a way to turn your faith into action?  Invite a Fresh Air Fund child into your home for one or two weeks this summer.  Fresh Air children are six to twelve years old.  Imagine a summer without swimming, laying in the backyard or gazing at the stars.  You can give these new experiences to a New York City child.  There are no financial requirements for hosting, just a warm heart and home.

If you would like more information about how you can give an awesome new experience to a child, call Cindy Mangione at 785-6176 or visit our website at www.freshair.org
