School News

Thank you to everyone who attended either or both of our special school liturgies celebrating Saint Kateri Tekakwitha.  We hope that you enjoyed the children’s participation and the home baked goods served following the liturgies. You might even have seen yourself on TV!

The Annual Raffle kicked off this past week and the winners will be pulled at the Sock Hop on Friday, November  9th so be sure to buy your ticket(s) before then!

Please continue supporting the Colonie Center SchoolBucks  and the SchoolMALL online stores which are easy ways of raising funds for our school.   Contact Karen Snyder in the school office with any questions concerning how these options work. Our holiday shopping is just around the corner!

Putting Faith Into Action

What is an Alzheimer’s Care Team?  Eddy Alzheimer’s Care Teams exist to provide non-medical support and companionship to individuals with some form of memory loss, whether it is due to Alzheimer’s disease or other related dementia’s.  By providing much needed respite to caregivers and socialization to the person with the disease, these caring individuals strive to make life better for both the caregiver and the patient.

What Path are You On?

“But it is not so among you; but whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be slave of all.”

For us, what does it mean to be slave of all?  The answers are easier after considering what “to serve” or “slave” mean.  We commonly associate them with activity that is menial or demeaning.  But the sense in which Jesus uses the terms include any act that is noble and unselfish, any gesture that affirms and encourages others, and any deed that is done with kindness and generosity.  James and John were looking for the glory but Jesus defined that path as one of service.  It is the same for us today!  Are you on the “right” path?

Baskets for Our Soldiers

If your loved one is in active duty overseas or recovering in a U.S. Military Hospital, please let us know.  The Women’s Guild at St. Michael’s will be preparing holiday care packages and would like to include Sacred Heart Soldiers in their effort.  Please call Barbara at the Rectory with the name and address of your soldier.

World Mission Sunday 10/21/12

Next Sunday, October 21, 2012 Pope Benedict  calls every Catholic in the world to celebrate our vocation to be missionary.  It’s World Mission Sunday!  As Catholics around the world – here at home and in the Missions – gather at the Eucharist around the table of the Lord, we are to pray for the Church’s worldwide missionary work.  Please give generously to this collection.

Marriage in the Modern World

Marriage today is a very fragile institution and society is probably much to blame.  Our culture is mainly one of me, me, me, and with that attitude marriage can never succeed.

The positive ideal is that in marriage the union between a man and a woman is so close that they can and do become “one flesh.”  Both must learn to love as God loves: total unselfishness, in complete gift of self.  Is this easy?  No!  Is it possible?  Yes!

In our gospel reading Jesus makes it clear that this is still God’s plan.  One man, one woman, together and faithful forever!

Join in the Celebration!

Mark your calendars! In June 2013, Sacred Heart Parish is commemorating 100 years since being established as a parish in the Troy, NY area. Check out our Face Book Page at  (http://www.facebook.com/#!/events/471416239546747/?fref=ts) or click on the Facebook link at right for more info.!)

This is a tremendous accomplishment and could only have been possible with the help of all that have been effected in some way by the parish or school. We are asking all parishioners, students, alumni, and others in the community to come and celebrate such a marvelous feat. It is the community and members of Sacred Heart (past and present) that have made this celebration possible.
