Recieve the Holy Spirit

Jesus breathed on the disciples and said: “Receive the Holy Spirit.”  He did the same to each and every one of us at our baptism.  But do we really believe this?

If we truly believe, then why do we so stingily offer up only a little   of ourselves in Christ’s service?  Remember Jesus has not gone from us in his resurrection  but is present by means of his Divine Spirit.  Are you afraid to step out for Jesus?  Listen to his opening words on both occasions to his disciples: “Peace be with you.”  This peace is what cast out fear and empowers us to go forth to continue his work.  Two great gifts, Spirit and Peace – waiting for you!

Sacred Heart Vintage Photos Wanted

The Anniversary Planning Committee is looking for a selection vintage photos depicting various aspects of school and/or parish life, facilities and events for possible inclusion in a 85th/100th Anniversary retrospective video.  If you are in possession of any such photos and are willing to loan them to the committee, please bring them to Mass Saturday 4/13 or Sunday 4/14.  Members of the committee will be available in the back of church after all Masses that weekend to accept your photos.

To ensure that all photos are returned to their proper owner please be sure to clearly write your name and phone number on the reverse of each image and place all photos submitted to the committee in an envelope bearing your name, address and phone number.

Vintage photos will be professionally photographed and returned to you, unharmed in approximately two weeks’ time.  Committee members will be available after all Masses on the weekend of 4/27-28 to return your photos, or you may pick up your photos in the parish office during regular business hours after April 28.

From Darkness…Into Light!

Easter shows us that the darkness of death is no longer the end of life.  This gives reason to stop and examine our way of living, and rise to some questions.  How often do you pause and reflect upon how you are living and where are you headed?  How does your understanding of death affect the way you live?

Do you truly accept that your journey to Glory must necessarily follow the light of Jesus?  Yes, Jesus is the light that illuminates the way, and provides the bridge from sin to forgiveness, from slavery to freedom, from darkness to light and death to life.  That bridge ONLY starts from here – and ends in eternity! Are you on it?

We give thanks to God and ask for His blessings on Olivia Grace Baker and Aldo Anthony Hansen who began their journey to The Light by receiving the Sacraments of Initiation at our  Easter Vigil.

Follow Him!

Our scriptures were written to show us The Way to follow Jesus, but remember they shouldn’t be just read – but must be lived!  Listen carefully to Luke today; be conscious of both the psychological and physical suffering that Jesus experienced all the way through.  Also be conscious of Jesus’ actions of demonstrating his love for others, whether they accepted or not, again all the way through.  We should open ourselves to this living message of love and sacrifice and pain and dying and sin and injustice so as to be changed by it.  Jesus did this for you!  Can’t you at least speak up for him?
