Advent is a time of preparation and anticipation.  As we await the birth of our Lord, let our preparations this Advent season be not just in hanging ribbons and bows… but also in preparing our hearts, and minds as we joyously await the coming of our redeemer.

Honoring All Who Served!

Sunday, November 11, 2012 is Veterans Day.  Many Americans confuse Memorial Day (the day we set aside to honor America’s war dead) with Veterans Day which we observe to honor ALL American veterans, both living and dead.

In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their dedicated and loyal service to this country. This national holiday gives all Americans the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of our U.S. veterans.

Please take a moment to personally thank a Veteran and in so doing ensure they know that we deeply appreciate their service and sacrifice in securing and maintaining the freedoms we all enjoy.

Blood Pressure Clinic this Weekend

The Parish Nurse Ministry will be holding a blood pressure clinic after all Masses on the weekend of 11/10 – 11/11/12.  Stop by immediately following Mass, have your blood pressure checked and stay for a cup of coffee, a pastry or two, and conversation with your fellow parishioners!

Called by Name Program

Called by Name” – Homilies at Masses on the weekends of November 17-18 and 24-25 will focus on identifying, and encouraging single men (ages 16-55) within our congregation to listen to Gods call to a life of spiritual leadership and service through the priesthood.  The “Called by Name” program being, initiated by the Diocese, is an effort to identify and encourage possible priest candidates from within our local communities.  (Future programs designed to identify and encourage possible candidates for the permanent diaconate, lay ministry and religious life are also being planned.)  In the coming week leading up to this series, please reflect upon and pray for single men from within our parish who you believe may possess the spiritual and leadership gifts to be “Called by Name” to consider a life of service in the priesthood.
