“…whoever believes has eternal life.”

In today’s Gospel reading there are four occasions in which Jesus is promising eternal life.  Verse 44: “…and I will raise him on the last day,”  Verse 47: “…whoever believes has eternal life.”  The next two have reference to the Eucharist;  Verse 50:  “…so that one may eat it and not die,” and finally, Verse 51: “…whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

Clearly all who accept Jesus in faith will have attained eternal life!  How is your life unfolding relative to our  primary goal of living with God forever?

Teen Pathways: Leading Teens Closer to Christ

A new year of Teen Pathways is fast approaching and if your teen has the interest and desire to be confirmed in the Catholic faith then this program is for them!  In order to receive the sacrament of Confirmation every teen needs to complete the two year preparatory program that is Teen Pathways.

This is an exciting time in this program’s history as we continue our mission of “leading teens closer to Christ.”  Session times are 6-7:30pm on Sundays.  Our program prides itself on its contemporary approach to learning about our faith that is  hands on, engaging and participatory in nature.

If your teen is interested in being part of this exciting program and receiving the sacrament of Confirmation please fill out the registration form found at http://bit.ly/teenpathwaysregistration  along with returning the registration fee of $45 to the parish office.  If you have any questions or would like some additional information about our program you can email me at teenpathways@gmail.com        Andrew Quell

Peter’s Pence Collection

At this weekend’s Masses we will support the Holy Father in his charitable works.  The Peter’s Pence Collection is taken up worldwide to support the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters and others in need of emergency assistance.  Pope Benedict XVI has said, “It is necessary above all that every person be motivated by the authentic spirit of peace” (Homily, January 1, 2011).  Cast the peace of Christ upon the world – please be generous in this weekend’s collections.

Follow the Good Shephard

In the last verse of today’s reading we see the people of Jesus’ time wandering astray and in need of a shepherd.  Look around you, is it any different today?  It is increasingly difficult to maintain a sense of purpose and direction in a world which stresses selfishness and comfort.   We are all called to wander afield by attractions that are not in harmony with our best interest.  There are plenty of voices to listen to, but many times we are tempted to take the easy path.  Remember, however, God gave us Jesus, the Good Shepherd, to guide and nourish each and every one of us.  Listen and follow him!

Fr. Kruegler 50th Anniversary Memorial Mass

A 50th Anniversary Mass will be celebrated in memory of Fr. William C. Kruegler M.M. and his mission of service on August 7 at 9:30am here at Sacred Heart.  Sr. Cathy Kruegler will be hosting a coffee hour following the Mass.  If you are planning on attending the coffee hour please RSVP to Sr. Cathy at 435-1057 or sckruegler@ahns.org

What is your Mission?

Just like the twelve who were sent out, we also are called, graced, empowered and mandated with a mission.  The toughest missionary territory in our country today is our secular culture, and it is why our churches are emptying and graying.  This is where we, the laity exercising our mission, must act as a light in the midst of the descending darkness.  How?  Fr. Richard Rohr wrote: “We do not ‘make’ or ‘create’ our souls; we just ‘grow’ them up.”  We re given a span of years to discover and develop it.

The call to mission is part and parcel of every Christian’s baptismal call!  How are you doing?
