Open the Door

Now, only two weeks from the end of the Church year, we are provided with Scripture readings which should challenge us to ask ourselves where our real priorities lie.

The first reading from Proverbs makes it clear that virtue is more important than “…deceptive charm and fleeting beauty.” The world we live in has a billion dollar industry  constantly bombarding us with the exact opposite priority. St. Paul reminds the Corinthians that they have been enlightened by the Gospel preached to them. Therefore, don’t live like you don’t know any better, for judgment will come “…like a thief in the night…” so it pays to be prepared.

Finally Jesus in the Gospel warns us that there is nothing passive or automatic about qualifying for His kingdom. We have no choice. We have to be actively and fruitfully engaged in promoting His kingdom, earning interest on the graces He provides for us, or “…What little we have will be taken away…”

Baptism ultimately is incompatible with just going through the motions. We must be active and open the door if we wish the Master to enter!  Look up the Book of Revelation 3:15-20.

God does not tolerate lukewarmness. How hot are you?
