His Mercy Endures Forever!

_DSC7074In today’s Gospel the risen Jesus tells His followers: “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” This is the challenge of every person who has ever lived since the last of Jesus’ contemporaries walked the earth.

Since Jesus’ time and throughout history, there have been numerous martyrs (the word means witnesses) and many magnificent saints.  Conversely, there have also always been those who openly refuse to believe, and there are many today who simply could care less, thereby implicitly refusing to believe.  Then there is the multitude of “fence straddlers” with love divided between the Lord and this world…those content with a mediocre attachment to God!

As temporal beings, it is easy for us to become discouraged with humanity’s historical track record. The consistent response of the Lord, however, has been as simply and eloquently stated by the Psalmist: “His mercy endures forever.”

This truth enables us mortals to ever live in hope.  The hope that the Easter reality will not only eventually permeate our personal lives, but also transform all creation!
