God Almighty in Our Lives!

Inspirational-1(Resize)Is there any doubt that St. James in today’s second reading considers the wealthy to be in grave danger of squandering the hope for salvation?

Wealth begets a false sense of power and security, and power corrupts. It contradicts a healthy sense of dependence upon God – which is what He asks of us. We are mere creatures with all sorts of inherent limitations of mind and spirit and even life itself. Yet all too often we simply refuse to accept that, whether explicitly or implicitly in how we act on a daily basis. We choke when it comes to letting God the Almighty be God in our daily living.

In today’s Gospel when we hear the words of Jesus speaking about getting rid of anything that stands in the way of our proper relationship with God, do not give in to the temptation to think Jesus is exaggerating, and therefore we can write Him off? Jesus is trying to impress upon us how serious this issue is. His words are hard, not easy, to accept. Reality is hard to accept.

Too often we prefer a dream world or to bury our heads in the sand. When will we allow His words to pierce our defenses and enter our hearts?
